There's a boy from the mission with a dream in his hand A simple ambition to play the guitar in the community band There's a girl at the station, he sees every day She's sweet and she's kind and in each other's mind They're falling in love Love in the time of drought She hums with her eyes closed, he whistles a tune He wears his favourite old hoodie - she wears a little perfume It rattles his senses as the train rumbles in He smiles at her shyly and shyly she smiles back at him And its love ... the beginning of love in the time of drought She offers him water, he brings her a shell Times are so hard when the taps have run dry and nothing's left in the well They dream of the thunder and the promise of rain When rivers are flowing and everything's living and growing again Like love in the time of drought ... It's the smell of the rain on the earth, the taste of the drops on your tongue It's the feel of the rain on your face and the way you embrace when you're young and finding love Love in the time of drought Where the rain is a river and it raptures along It's a precious life giver, the words of a song The start of a new day - it's a heavenly sound It's the promise of life and of joy for the girl and the boy and love that they've found In the time of drought

Blue Lebombo in the distance - I can hear the eagle's cry I hurry on at her insistence to gaze into the elephant's eye The road ahead is hazy, dusty, must be water I can see ahead But I'm fooled by the illusion it's just the shimmer of the road instead Down the winding trail I wander, I hear the thunder miles away Dove is telling me that surely there will not be rain today Giant anthills, a hyena stares at me with a scary grin Long eyelashes in the treetops - this must be a dream I'm in Monkey business all around me - at the bank, a gaping yawn Magic swirls around me like the spiral of a Kudu horn Break of noon and the big baboon is barking at my feeble try To search the span of the savannah to gaze into the elephant's eye Vultures circle high above - the riverbed is red & dry Something crackles in the bushes - will I see the elephants eye? Skins that shiver from stinging - singing & the winging bird Quick & flicking Lizard tongue - light reveals the dusty herd I feel it rise from deep inside - my beating heart cannot deny The mixed emotions that I feel as I gaze into the elephant's eye I will fight for you forever - tell your story far & wide I will stop the hunter's bullet - pull the arrow from your side I can hear the rolling thunder, closer now, the eagle's cry You'll be back to feel the rain and gaze into the elephant's eye

COME TO ME 04:37
Come to me with sweet emotion & with honesty No need to be discreet, we can meet, come to me Come to me - there's never been a better time to be Celebrating who we are From a burning star Days will fly - in just a moment it has all gone by Love is free, you can come to me Days will fly - in just a moment it has all gone by Darling, we are free, you can come to me Come to me - perhaps this meeting is our destiny There's no mistake, I'm wide awake Come to me Come to me we have waited an eternity On this journey of the heart this journey of the heart

Once I was young & unafraid - then I lost my sense of wonder Now I tend to linger in the shade, afraid of going under So I stepped into the shadows, where a darkness covered me What I need is a reflection, but I'm just too blind to see So shock treat me love, show me the light Shock treat me love, rock me tonight Shock treat me love & tell me again that the world is beautiful ...

AXIS MUNDI 05:27
Axis mundi, centre of meaning, perfectly balanced angle of learning Axis mundi, held in a trance of magical motion, a mystical dance Axis mundi, constant revolving, life after life slowly evolving Axis mundi, this is our planet of fire, water, air & of granite Axis mundi ... planet endangered! This wonder of wonders cast by the sun, high into heaven And lovingly hung by the hands of creation, for worlds to observe Divine inspiration - and humbly to serve All that we need is here in this place, a life we destroy we can never replace This delicate fabric, our very design depends upon how our lives intertwine The ant, the whale, creatures unseen - the independence of each living being Burned by our anger, spoiled from neglect No hope for peace if we have no respect for life While silently spinning, this jewel in space could soon become A desolate place ... Axis mundi ... planet endangered!

Spiral eyes on a liquid horizon - watching it rise on the cosmic sea The casual ocean - mystical motion - waves of devotion & ecstasy A rising sensation - a swell of creation in my imagination - a harmonic lift Illumination - realisation - a turning of worlds ... A paradigm shift

about

"Just as a monkey swinging through the trees grabs one branch and lets it go only to seize another, so does that which is called thought or mind, continuously arise and disappear" - the Buddha

As an insomniac I totally get it. My "chattering monkey mind" is way too distracted! But I am blessed to be able to channel some of that crazy monkey stuff into music and grateful that I get to share some of that loco motion with you. - Edi

Gratitude is always a constant in amongst the chattering and right now, that goes out in loud howling to the friends who made the recording of this collection happen ...

Cally Kuhne our compassionate cyclist, tireless mover and shaker, campaigner & starter of fires like this.
All who generously contributed financially to enable this project.
Untold friendships and influences over the span of time - thank you.

TO THE MUSICIANS:
Annie Hvidsten for supportive encouragement and allowing the monkey the freedom to swing back & forth - while remaining constant in friendship and solid in groove, throughout.
Ronan Skillen master musician, percussionist for his friendship, encouragement and sharing a love of beautiful world music.
Karen Rutter & Nelson Barbosa for drums, and bass on Axis Mundi and long-time friendship filled with travels and many laughs!
Dave Langermann 'The Surgeon' - our awesome engineer! An attentive, energetic, yet gentle soul - for all his input & for travelling this often demanding journey with us.

To my parents and family for tales of gypsies, Hungarian folk melodies, stories of war and hardship and beauty and song and passionate loves ...

The resonance of the African bush and soil and the music that I first heard as a young child growing up in a verdant and sultry Durban from the voices of labourers and cleaners and Indian vendors and cane cutters and Zulu guitar pickers.

... this is the Afro Shakti that speaks for the monkey
